How is this for an international post?

I've had an email to me here in the UK from an acquaintance in Australia about getting a replacement magazine for his Japanese Miroku .243 U/L rifle.

So here I am posting on a USA forum to see if anyone can help.

Sometimes you have got to love the internet.

Anyone have any experience of these rifles and where he could get a magazine?

dromia,
he might have some lock with Gold Coast Shooters Supplies in Queensland. They had an ad in the Australian Shooter Magazine some time back and I think that it listed mags for that rifle. Failing that, Queensland Gun Exchange, Rebel Gunshop or Cleavers (all in Queensland) might be able to help.

Since Miroku also makes & brands their U/L (lever-action) rifle as the Browning BLR; AND .243 magazines are interchangeable with both .308 & .358 magazines, I would think that once it's determing whether he has the early detachable magazine, or the later (BLR-81) magazine that attaches to a larger floorplate, one could be ordered from Browning or perhaps found on E-Bay.

Thank you for the replies, evidently the Browning magazines don't fit.

You would be in error, Sir.

Miroku has made only one underlever (lever-action) in .243, most of which were branded as the Browning BLR - and which had two different styles of magazine attachment, early (BLR) & late (BLR-81).

Yep! They look a tad different. I have always fancied one of the early ones in 308W or 358W, but have only ever seen them in 22/250 or 243.

It must be a location thing, the 358's are pretty popular here, but we see 308's pretty regularly.
I have a friend that uses the 308 for everything so far, and has taken moose, caribou and black bear with it.
I have been watching for a 358 model 99 with a decent price for a while. One of these days the stars will line up.

It is funny how things are different in different locations. I have several old 1892 Winchesters. I prefer the traditional full length mag carbine versions, which are rare here, but common (well, not common, lets just say it is the version you usually encounter, lol). The half mag versions are the usual style here and seem to be pretty freely available. Of course, Winchester afficindicios her want full mag versions and our brothers with similar tastes in the States are all clamoring for half mag versions, haha!

As far as teh older Mirokus are concerned, it seems 22/250s, 243 where the most popular and the odd 308, but the later Brownings all seem to come in 22/250, I even saw one in 223 (but was casg strapped at the time).

The more recent alloy framed one seemed to be sold mostly in the bigger calibres, but I have yet to see one come up on the used rifle market.

I had the hots for a recent take down 308 that was in the local shop, but again cash flow (or the lack of flow) prevented the acquisition.

What are the chances. I was in a gunstore today, and what did I see but a BLR half tube in 358 for 500+

I see the blr 358's every once in a while, but have never ran across the Model 99 in 358 when I had the cash. lol

I love my 99 in 358 - I once saw one in 375 big bore and turned it down wanted the Winchester 94 Big Bore instead - I'm an IDIOT what can I say.

I also turned down a Browning early version BLR in 308 for $400 last year - had the money just didn't like the way the rifle fit me.
I had a friend with a 358 BLR when they first came out and made up some loads - 200 grained jacketed for deer and 158 pistol JHP for small game - took awhile but got them to shoot to Point of aim with his iron sights - fun project - like it when someone else pays for powder and projectiles.

dromia, as others have told you, there are two browning/Miroku magazines. The early magazine, which protrudes below the receiver, and the later flush style. I know for a fact that the early .308 and .243 mags interchange. I still have my .308 and it is a fine, if odd looking, rifle. Maybe numrich arms can provide a magazine?
