Took my first Black Bear in Quebec this week. 3 year old 250 pound male. Used my Marlin 444 loaded with TLC432-285-RF at 1950fps, weight is close to 280 gr with lube and gas check. Shot him in the neck at 75 yards trying to break the spine. Missed the spine but he dropped in his tracks. Nice hide with no rub marks. Will make a nice rug.:-D

Congrats :drinks:

Well that tells me if I go to Maine next year , my plan of a 444 loaded with Ranch Dog cast bullets will be just fine .

Now all I need to do is decide which 444 and which of the Ranch Dog 44 cal bullets

Nice Bruin! Did you eat him too? I haven't had black bear steaks in a long time.

Cooked some at the camp for everyone. Kept the backstraps and tenderloin, left the rest with the outfitter. He is going to make jerky for the camp visitors.

Outstanding LGS!!!

What was your alloy mix and are you treating it (oven, water, etc.)?

I can grab the pictures from above, any chance of using them in the Trophy Room on the RDOutdoors web site?

RD, use what you want. I used 50/50 Lino and range scrap from a indoor range that only allows lead bullets. I let them air cool and lube with White Label Red Cunuba 2700. Accuracy is good. I think I am going to bump my size up from .432 to .434 for my Micro-groove barrel. Now it is time to work on my TLC425-460RF bullet fot the 45-70.
