I was given a couple of boxes of old .38 Special ammo the other day and half of them were these hollowpoint wadcutters. The brass head stamp is simply Hydrashok, nothing more. I was wondering about maybe getting a wadcutter mould and having it hollowpointed as closely as possible to this (I know I probably won't get the post in the middle though). Does anyone have any knowledge of these HP wadcutters, I have never seen anything like this but I would love to see what kind of expansion out of a .38 Special I would get.

Swaged lead double ended hollow based wad cutter looks like to me. I've got some Bullzi boolits that look like that. Shoot real good out of my Colt. Got me thinken bout making a swage die so I can have a lot more of em.

A soon as I saw this I thought Hydra-Shock. I use to carry the jacketed version in 9mm when I was with the D. C. Police. Can't think of any reason to have these as a wadcutter. Might be good for medium-small size varmits.

HYDRA-SHOCKS were one of the hot items of the 1970s. IIRC FEDERAL ammo licensed the concept from a guy named Tom Burcyzsnki...I know I botched the spelling; sorry. He went on to design and develop some more advanced concepts in hollow points...STAR FIRE?

Us old guys can remember the bad old days before Lee Jurras (SUPER VEL) and the limited amount of high performance commercial ammo. You didn't walk into WAL MART or your local gun shop and get a box of hollow points for many calibers...if any.

Federal makes that design(the center post) in thier HydroShok home defence hp loads. I have a couple boxes in.45ACP and .40S&W. Never did test how they expand.
