Build it yourself on the cheap.

Alpha Shooting Sports often has this barrel on sale for $120. http://www.shop.ar15hardware.com/16-300-Blackout-Chrome-Moly-Barrel-alp16300bo.htm through this link: http://www.300blktalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=80986

Get an inexpensive upper and a set of Brownell's tools. Brownell's recently had their clamshell tool set on sale. Add a gasblock, tube, and barrel nut.

Pick out a handguard and you have a very reasonable upper you built yourself.

I like the Troy Alpha rail for about $129 from Primary Arms.

Ill give a vote for Sota Arms. They have all the parts to build one, or buy a complete upper from them. Reasonably priced and good service. If you order a gas tube it doesnt come with the roll pin ( or at least mine didnt)

I bought one here a year ago, $320 or so and never looked back, works great....

I'll give a nod to dsarms.com as well. Also recall seeing Model 1 had them for just over $300, but havn't looked there in quite awhile. My personal preference (and the way I went) was to just buy the barrel. I have two 5.56 uppers, and had been salivating over the 300 AAC since I first learned about it. The swap is simple, just install the barrel and go. Brass is easy to form and the cartridge is very easy to load for. It likes any bullet I've put through it, jacketed and cast, from 100 gr up to 240 gr and there are lots of powders that work well for me.

Long story short, one way or the other, go for it. You will love the caliber. If you need brass or loading help, let me know.

Hatch, you probably already know, but make sure you have the appropriate legal paperwork to go with that SBR upper! Midwayusa.com has the best selection of shorties I have seen. If you can afford it, register to put a can on it at the same time.

I own 4 sbrs and a couple cans as well. but thanks..

You can build it as a pistol too with a short barrel

Advantage to 300bo is you can use a 9mm can if you stick to sub Sonics

Just wanted to be sure, I'd hate to see a fellow shooter busted because someone thought he was having more fun than he had a right to! I havn't gotten my tax stamp yet, my patience levels would be tested waiting, and I hear the return time is getting longer and longer lately from the feds. However, everything I have seen says the 300 AAC performs superbly in short platforms. Mine has a 16" barrel and the water jug tests I have done showed it to be absolutely devastating. Havn't been able to get match grade accuracy out of mine, but it hits pretty much where I point it.

I just picked up one of these 10.5 stainless barrels. There is a coupon code to get it for 150.00 good till the end of December IIRC.

I'm seriously thinking about cutting mine down to 8 inches though.

I ended up getting a complete upper assy (300AAC) with SS barrel and muzzle brake with bolt carrier and charging handle
from Northern Rifleman web site for 538.00 with free shipping, they do offer a military/LEO discount. Orginal price was 589.00 plus
shipping.

Well i can't shoot match grade so it will work out fine.
I am a man accurate target shooter.
I can hit a man size target at 100 yards in center mass but that's about it
