Ruger blackhawk.

I have a 340g Accurate mold. I have a few ideas of where to start, but I'd like some suggestions. If I don't have the powder I don't mind buying it. I would PREFER to start out with Unique though, I have a lot of it.

Any ideas? Not looking to drive the **** out of it.

Well I have had good luck with 9gr of unique I have tried 12gr of hs-6 I like 16-16.5gr of 2400 enforcer with 16.5gr is a splendid load. 296/h110 and 21.5gr has been a go to load for quite a while seems like when I can't get any of the others to group that one will. Last week I tried 10.5gr of long shot accuracy was ok but the 21.5gr of 296 beat it and pretty much all the others. If a all day load is your plan I really like 16.5 of enforcer and 16gr of 2400. Hopefully RobS will chime in eventually as he has loads I know I forgot about. You can back off just a touch with 296 and it will make a big difference in felt recoil. I would consult hodgdon and remember that bullet you are loading does seat as deep as a cast performance 335gr bullet so using data for that bullet and you will be fine. I did forget 4227 and 20.5-21-5gr is a nice load as well. Alliants new 300-mp and 22gr is comfortable and Brian Pearce listed loads up to 25gr in his article in handloader although I quit at 24.5 recoil got to be a factor at 24.5 so I quit there. Drop me a pm if you need anymore help and I'll see if I can find some other loads I liked

the unique load is a very good load for all day shooting and the penetration from that load will amaze you. No need to singe your eye brows to get good penetration from that bullet

I've shot some 6 gr Unique loads with a 340 gr. You can almost see the boolit go downrange but fun plinker. I usually load 19.5 - 20 grs of H110.

The 345 grain Accurate Mold design I put together does well with 17.5-18 grains of Enforcer/Accurate Arms 4100 and is an upper level load for a Ruger BH (probably start at 16 grains and workup). I have also loaded up 16.5 grains of 2400 with decent results (start at 15 grains) and have also shot a 22 grain load of H110 (start at 20 grains). With these slower powders I would cap the load at 1150-1200 fps or a touch more as accuracy will fall off as the pressure climb. H110 will have the best capability to reach the upper velocities and be accurate. Unique is a powder that can go from being Ruger Only pressure to a spike in pressure with such a heavy boolit so just a word of caution I suppose and at 900 to 1000 fps is attainable. I prefer 2400 as the slowest powder myself. I did also work some 4227 and it shot well but I can't remember the charge.

Fill the case with RL7 to the bottom of the boolit without compression. Not for weak guns. ... felix

that sounds like a interesting load am I correct in assuming mag primers should be used or do standard work Just as well

i use the lee 340 gr bullet (casts .456, 335 gr) resized to .452 in my blackhawk w/23.0 gr 296. it's very accurate but, a lot to hang on to and 2 gr under a max charge.

I have a 325 grain Mountain Mold that does well with 21.0 grains of H-110 in my Bisley Blackhawk. Here is a link to some data that includes 340 grain bullets.

What kind of velocity are you getting with these loads? Thanks.
