Just bought a Ballard rifled 1894 Marlin Cowboy limited in 45 colt . I plan to use this for plinking at metal plates. I have access to a Lyman Keith 250 gr and Lee RNFP 200 gr bullets. I am wondering what dia people are sizing their bullets to and luck they are having with Unique.

Thanks,

Matt

Sizing mine to .454", but not using Unique, I am using Blue Dot.

I size to .452. I use a 290 gr bullet with 10.5 gr of a surplus similar to AA5.

I use the Magma 200 gr. RNFP in mine, loaded over Trailboss. I size my bullets to .452" and have excellent accuracy and no leading.

Hope this helps.

Mine has a huge chamber and will accept a .460" boolit seated in the case. So I size boolits to .458", only neck size the cases, anneal the heck out of them, and get astounding accuracy far better than a rifle like that has a right to produce. Never tried Unique, mainly use Trailboss or black powder though it does shoot well with 10B101 in limited testing.

Never shot anything that light. No desire to try them either. I prefer a 250 to 300 grain bullet in mine.

The Lee 230 TC tumble lube ones made for the 45 ACP work pretty good. Haven't tried anything lighter.

8 grains of Unique is a very nice 45 colt load with 250 cast. It's one of favitore's.

I size 454. I have a Rossi, a BlkHk and a Redhk in 45 Colt and I have never loaded with Unique. The realization makes me scratch behind my ears. What the heck? I've just got a lot of H110.:veryconfu

No point asking other people what size bullets they use because they all have different barrels to you.
Slug your bore and then size your bullets 1 - 2 thou bigger than your bore.
If you don't know how to slug the bore ask someone to do it for you, or google the instructions, it really isn't difficult to do.
