I just mailed in my check to Blammer and added 2000 GC's to the order.

I have a .309 die and lots of lead. Some of it is WW and some is range lead and some is pure Linotype.

For this bullet/mold I am looking for "cheap" bullets for long range practice (.308 Winchester) that are as accurate and consistent as possible. I can use my "mix" of range and WW lead for pistol bullets that "don't matter". The Linotype was purchased 35 years ago, and it is consistent, but I fear it may be too hard to use "straight". If that is the case, I wish to purchase commercial alloy. That way when I find an accurate load it can be replicated. I am NOT interested in mixing alloys. It would be great to have an alloy that is also suitable for hunting but that is a secondary consideration at this point. Could anyone suggest a "good" alloy to start with?

I am also considering going to a .310 sizing die. Any thoughts on this?

The rifle is new and it will be a dedicated cast bullet rifle. I have another .308 I will use for jacketed bullets.

Thank you for your opinions and assistance.

Don

I would suggest you use the WW alloy and possibly water quench.

.309 is a good one to try first, I'd use it and see how it does before getting a .310

I also suggest the WW, my 308 dotes on air cooled WW +2% Sn with a 180 gr boolit @ 1900 fps.

My bore is .3082" and I size at .309", zero leading.

I have the NOE 311365 in a 5 cav and it shot well though I haven't had the chance yet to work with it a lot. Mine drops WW @ .3105" and again sized to .309" @ 197 gr.

I have the Ideal 311365 that was the pattern for NOE.I size them .309 for most 308's i have shot them and used WW or misc range scrap quenched.I use 18-19g of W296 as a go to load.its in the RCBS cast bullet manual(180g bullets) should you need reference for the load.I have used the load for about 15 years.

Thanks,
RCBS Green
Lee Liquid ALox
NRA Formula
Darr#2 (50-50 Vaseline-paraffin with a bit of STP)

these all have worked for me to 2000 fps and i cant tell a difference between them in grouping

I am NOT interested in mixing alloysJust use the alloy calc. to mix Lino and pure to get what you need. More repeatable than range or WW, which are unknown. I size mine .310 cause I don't have a .309 sizer.

I am also waiting for the 311365, 323365 and 338365.

Real exited to see how these group.

btw, Thanks again Blammer and NOE for all the work for getting us these Molds.

I'm on the same buy and looking forward to shooting it. I'd tend toward a softer alloy over a harder one. Pure Lyno is definitely too hard. I'll be using WW alloy water quenched for mine and lubed with Carnuba Red. I'll be using this boolit for military bolt rifle silhouette matches, and dont intend to hunt with it.
My understanding is cast pointy boolits are a poor choice for hunting - you want a nice large meplat for proper boolit deformation. Not to say it wont drop a deer in its tracks though...

Popper, I size mine to .309 because I don't have a .310 for my Lyman 450. The 03-A3 seems to prefer bigger than .309 and I'm hoping a little bigger will be a lot better. What type of sizer do you use? If its a Lyman or RCBS maybe a swap is in order. Frank
