I found this at the flea mkt. I gave $30.00 for it - the man I bought it from said he got it years ago when he lived in Texas. Someone on another forum said it looked like something his granny used to bake cornbread in. My granny made her share of cornbread and I don't recall her ever using something like this.

It's pretty heavy and it's almost 3/8" thick. Ingots weigh 2 1/2 lbs. ww and 3 lbs +- of pure lead. Anybody ever seen one like it?

Never seen the mold but I once bought ten pure lead ingots that weighed three pounds each that look like they came from that very same mold,

Run down to the hardware store and pick up a can of gold spray paint!

See there - I knew it wasn't a cornbread pan.

The channels between the molds tell you it's a molten metal mold, and very likely for lead.
Want to sell it?

No Sir I think I'll hang on to it (it's the only ingot mould I have).

That is a fine looking ingot mould. Darn good price for it too.

Good purchase. Enjoy it.

My guess is an old mould for bar lye soap.

I got one like that. It come with the ten ingot moulds I got for casting the old Linotype for the print setters. They use to use it to make smaller ingots for what reason I don't know. Sounded convincing to me at the time.

Maybe the smaller ingots were easier to handle. It works great, I've made about 700 lbs. of ingots with it so far. I wish I had a few more just like it.

I was thinking that too. I know some soap moulds were made out of wood, little notched slats that locked together into rectangles and you disassembled them to remove the cooled bars, but it stands to reason that some were made of cast iron too. Or it could be an ingot mould. It certainly serves the purpose well now!
