Seems everyone at deer camp has been missing deer this last weekend. I heard the usual excuse, scope is off, but it seems they all recanted after a few shots at paper  Seems the latest and greatest rifles aren't always better than the old junk.

Made me stop and check mine though. I haven't shot it at paper in a few years now, but it has decent optics and mount so it should hold zero. Plus it doesn't hurt that I baby it as much as I do the better ones.

Shoots better than it should :)

3 shots at around 100 yards with factory Remington 125's. It shoots as well with everything else I have fed it. I guess I have been lucky when it comes to "picky" rifles, or I just didn't keep them. Either way, I don't have any.

Kind of an ugly little round

And the rifle that gets carried the most during season. I cut it back to 16" and love it. The barrel doesn't stick up above your head when it is carried and it is handy as can be in the shooting houses. I need to shoot it across the chronograph to see just how much velocity is lost from cutting it down. Whatever it is, it is worth it as far as being handy.

Ya know, those Remington 760s are real good rifles, and reliable too. I have my grandfather's 760 in .300 Savage. Talk about a nice round. I never had a scope on it and done alright with it.

The Thompson Contender Carbine is 16 inches and legal, so I have to believe this 16" is also legal, but maybe there's something I don't understand either.

16 inch on a rifle is legal , shoot any cast through it ?

It should actually be at least 16.1 because it can vary where an ATF agent measures from so most barrels are cut 16.1 to 16.5 to be on the safe side. If an Agent measures it and its 15.99 you are busted !
It really depends on where you started your 16 inch measure from !

A minimum of 16'' from the closed breech face to the muzzle is all that is required. If you face off the barrel at 16'' and then cut an 11 degree crown you may create a legal problem with that barrel. It is generally wise to leave a little extra barrel length over 16'' in case you ever need re-cut a damaged crown.

I seem to recall the 35 Rem Super 16 Contender barrel I used to own actually measured 16 1/4'' from the factory.......Mike

I am up a tree with my trusty, rusty old Marlin 336 in thurty-thurty and a mag full of 160 gr RFP cast boolits. It doesn't get any better.

I have a 308/7600 Police with the standard 16 1/2" barrel. It kinda barks a bit as well, lol.

Nice looks like it will do what you need it to. I have a little 16.75" NEF single shot in 30-06 that rides around in my pickup. With full power loads it gets pretty loud.

Those Rem 760 30-06's have won a number of world running deer championships in Sweden. There just good ole plain killers.
