I've seen some old horizontal loaders and always woudered how they work.
I understand the deprime, size, and seat operation.
What get's me is how you keep the powder from spilling out.
Do you seat the bullet by hand first, then lay it down in the press????

One of the best was the old Belding & Mull. Google them and I think there is a picture of one on one of the sites. If not, ask PRESSMAN here. If he doesn't know about it, it probably doesn't exist.

p.s. How did the bolt work out?

It was probably a Belding & Mull set up. I've got one in .270 Winchester that I believe is complete, though I've never tried to use it.

Hope this helps.

It's going to need some work.
I can get it to function, but it's locking up sometimes.
At least I have one, and it makes the rifle go bang.

Could be a Schmidt???

I've never used a horizontal press, but I have handled them. I would think that the operator would dispense powder into the casing in the conventional fashion, and then slightly press the bullet into the belled case mouth. It would remain slightly "pinched" in the case mouth during the seating operation, thus the powder would not spill out.
