Evening guys! I've been asked to provide my uncle a 200 gr boolit + load for his 357 magnum. I've seen the 358315 and 358430 lyman, but I have a suspicion he will want a more swc design. Any suggestions out there? I'll get mire feedback from him in the next few days to try and get a good peg on his expectations. Oh, and for powder, my mag mainstay is 2400 for any full load suggestions.

Cheers!
Clint

You might want to have a look at the RCBS 35 200.

In 35 cal for a spitzer there is the RCBS 35 250 gr.

You didn't say what type of fireaarm this would be fired in. My FA 357 really likes the 200 w/h-110 but I don't know well this would work in a shorter cylinder and the 250 sure wouldn't. Either would of course be fine in a rifle.

Sorry for not mentioning the revolver. Likely a SnW 27-2

Well the cyl on that 27-2 needs to be 1.600" long to shoot heavies !!

1 that works well for me in my Rugers is the NOE 360-180.

Mine drops a heavy 180 & plain based solid lubed comes in at 187.3gr. with my isotope alloy & that`s as heavy as I want to launch from a 357 revolver.

you'll be looking at a wfn type design.
or a hammer mold, basically a wad cutter with a slightly reduced nose diameter to fill the throats all the way to the face of the cylinder.

If you access to some, you could try the Lyman 358627 SWC. My mould drops at 215 gr. I'm not sure if your cylinder is long enough for the OAL of this round, though. It'll work in .38 Spec. cases, too.

............My Ruger BH really likes the Saeco #356. A 200gr FNGC design. May be too long for the Smith.

The S&W 27-2 with its short cylinder may not be the best platform for this one though.

I have a NOE 360-200-SWC, the nose lengths measure .300 and the meplats .250.
In a 357 case I fuel it with 12.0gr. of 2400 and spark it with a small rifle primer.
Penetration is best measured in hours, not inches. ;)

Thanks for all the tips guys I appreciate it many times over! You all have given me a great place to start to make decisions for a mold.

Maglvr, the 360-200, did you go with the gc or Pb using 12 gr 2400?
