Has anyone ever converted a H&R single shot rifle chambered in 17 HMR into a 17 Hornet?

AFAIK, the conversion's contra-indicated, because the RF actions are cast iron, and not strong enough to sustain CF rifle pressures like the forged steel CF rifle receivers can.

Not to mention trying to move that firing pin around.

Probably just better to buy a barrel for the Contender and not worry about the conversion.

Yep, .17 Ackley Hornet is listed at 53,000 CUP, which is more than double the .22 Mag (and presumably .17 HMR). Worse, if you want .17 Hornet, you have to specify which .17 Hornet; Hornady's factory round isn't perfectly compatible with the original Ackley wildcat, having a shorter body and total case length and thicker rim (the latter may keep it from even chambering in Ackley Hornet rifles, and the extra bullet jump tends to harm accuracy even if it works).

greetings,
if you find someone who does this, I would like one also, problem solved just go to graybeard outdoors forums and
pick up a centerfire receiver for less than a $ 100. Less of a problem if you already have an H&R laying around
thanx

no problem to convert the 17 hmr to 17 hornet or 17 mach4. i have done both, simply fit the rimfire barrel to a late h&r centerfire receiver, ream the new chamber and you are in business. my hornet is the k hornet but you can get a reamer for any of the variances from pt&g. i have also done one of each of the above in contender 17 hmr barrels. h&r 1-9 twist, contender 1-10 twist. there is no reason to worry about the pressure as the late h&r centerfire receivers are plenty strong.
