hi guys,need a favor,anyone with a 45lc or 454 bullet seater die measure the ID.when i try to seat the boolit it crimps the bell down and does the boolit shave boogie.the die i have measures .480.thanks.

RCBS in 45LC measures 0.486". Suggest that the seater die is set too low. Screw die up about 3-4 turns and turn the seater plug down to seat boolits. Screw plug up several turns and then gradually turn down die to get the desired amount of crimp

thanks for checking,it starts to crimp as it enters the first part of the die,tryd the die 2 turns from crimp and it still shaves.

Get a Redding Pro-Crimp die. It's a crimp only die.
Keep turning the die out until you no longer shave lead.
Use your current seating die to seat the bullet and use the Redding die to crimp.

i seat and crimp in 2 steps now,with 2 seperate dies.it shaves lead as soon as it enters the seater die,i mean the first .010 of travel,the die is only .480,i think the die is way to tight,duckillers die is .006 larger than mine so if my cases could enter the die .006 larger than i think this would help.

truckboss, i dont know what size boolit your useing but, if there .454, that only leaves room for .013 wall thickness of the brass, not alone any flare left on the case. i dont have a 45l.c. or dies, but that sounds tight to me. i have a lyman 38\357 seater die that does the same thing. the r.c.b.s. seater i also have is much larger inside, and works fine. i called lyman about mine and they admited mine is to tight and to send it back and they will replace it. i havent done it yet, i should. mine works o.k. with jacketed bullets and i bet yours will too.-phil:castmine:

Mine is a Lee. It is 0.482.

the boolits are .453 to .454 and and i called rcbs,they said to send it back.i think if it is a little bigger this will help.
