I came into some COWW and was tired of using my standard turkey fryer burner turned smelter, just didn't seem that I was getting all the good I should be.

This bad boy from Sams Club for $44 is the cat's meow. Just sounds like a jet engine. Half speed was all I needed. Didn't want to vaporize any missed Zinc.

Cut my smelting time by 75%.

I accidently smelted 50 pounds this afternoon before I knew it.

Just saying. Do yourself a favor.

It's also here:http://www.lalagniappe.com/mall/Jet-Burners.htm It's the second one on the left.

I couldn't find it on Sam's online. It's at the Myrtle Beach store.
$44 is a killer deal.

Does it save you fuel? How much gas does it use in a normal smelting session.

Propane retailers are having a gas war here.

$4 to fill up a twenty pound tank. Fuel is not an issue. It saves time any way. May be the same as a burner that takes longer to melt.

How many BTUs is it? Some of the regular burners have a higher rating and don't have the god awful jet sound. A friend has one of the jets I will deal with slower times to save my ears.

I've got one just like it. It will smelt 50# in less than 30 minutes.
I love that sound, everyone on the block knows when I'm cooking range lead!
I picked up a 100# tank at Northern tool to help feed it on those long cool afternoons when ingots are the order of the day!

It says 162 quarts, that's about 40 gallons,
water weighs about 8 lbs/gal, so about 320 lbs.

I have the SP-1 model. It heats very fast. I love it. Before I used mine I stood on it to make sure it was strong. I'm 200 lbs. No more waiting around for stuff to heat. Now I wait till' I have about 500 or more lbs. The best thing I ever bought for melting ccw.

The only way to know for sure is to test one to failure and see.

However, if the flames are that concentrated as they appear in the photos, I'd be concerned about burning a hole in the bottom of one's pot!

Since I use a heavy cast iron dutch oven, burning a hole in the pot is very unlikely.
So far it has stood up very nicely to a least a ton of range lead, to the tune of 50-80# a batch.

Mine's 105,000 BTU, and it does sound like a jet.

The burner does get the job done quickly.

I'll bet that 180,000 BTU unit would really handle BIG BATCHES.

The reason for the roar is that they use a gas burner type of orifice or a welding gas tip. Makes them sound like a jet engine.
We use this type of burner in Louisiana for boiling crabs, crawfish, shrimp and so on as they will bring a 100 qt pot to a rolling boil very fast. They also use more propane.

Someone needs to mount a hot-air balloon burner to one of these stands.
