New to shooting CB and have read that there can be a problem shooting them through a muzzle brake. I have a chance to pick up a TC barrel with factory muzzle brake, but won't if i can't. Will it handle CB plain base and gas checked?

Should be fine
I have a 35 rem with a factory muzzle brake an it works very good.
A muzzle brake is larger then the bore, So Boolits dont hit the brake.

Thanks. Lucky, have you used gas checks in your 44?

Muzzle Breaks and Porting are 2 different things.
I've had issues porting on a couple guns. The ports leaded badly after just a maybe a dozen rounds and accuracy went south fast.

I have shot gc boolits through braked rifles in .30 to .458 calibre. As kisky says, the boolit never touches the brake, so fire away and have fun.

I find the nice round lube cloud produced by the brake kind of entertaining...

The condom crowd has perpetuated that myth for years. I have shot thousands of boolits through muzzle brakes in a number of barrels and have never had a problem. Truth be told, I never found a good reason to clean them either after shooting lead.

+1

Back in the late 1980’s I traded a well used S&W Model 39 (better than 15K cast lead boolits shot out of it by me, I had acquired it years earlier from a State Department Regional Security Officer) for a Ruger Blackhawk that was Magna Ported. The ports would lead up and be totally closed after less than 10 rounds firing cast boolits (plain base). I cleaned it, sold it, and bought a new Ruger Blackhawk .44 Mag without porting, and the leading disappeared and I still have and shoot that revolver.

Thanks for the information. I really have no plans to shoot a handgun with a muzzle brake, but had an opportunity to get one and wanted to know first.
