I believe the correct method is to weld some good 3/8" plate to the center and a reapplication of paint for Ivan the Red. If not it's a trip to the recycle bin for sure.

Plastic surgery, as in Bond-O, should do the trick. Tint it red to match.

After you fix up the holes, maybe try heating the whole piece to a nice dull red. Then douse it in used motor oil. It might get it hard enough to resist some of those shots. If not it will at least protect the unshot parts from rusting. :D
