View Full Version : X-Ray room lead alloy?

A friend of mine is an electrician doing a job at a local hospital. He saved some disguarded strips of lead from an X-Ray room for me. If I understand him correctly, the room was lined with sheets of lead and these strips were used to bridge the gaps in the sheets. They are about 2 inches wide and an eighth-inch thick. They feel like pure lead. Does anyone know if these are pure lead or alloy? If they are alloy, does any one know the composition? I didn't get much (about 30 pounds) but free is always good.
Thanks for the help,
Mark

I bought some x-ray room shielding a few weeks ago and it was incredibly clean. Smelted them in the Lee 4-20 and it produced zero residue. Blended them in with my COWW ingots at 1:1 and 3:1 lead/COWW and both mixtures filled out the molds very well and shot just fine up to 1000 fps in 40 S&W. Get as much as you can!
