I got a call last night from a tire shop to call another guy if I wanted a ton+ of WW
CHEAP or close to free

SO I called FAST
Set it up , I would pick them up after work today
I thought I had hit the mother load

Found out this guy had cases of New WW that had gotten wet when his tire shop had flooded , rusting the clips and destroying the boxs
Insurance was replacing them for him , I just had to drop off a case of beer to make his guys happy

He had dumped the boxs and all in 4 - 55 gallon barrels , sealed the tops and labled them trash

EPA clean up in progress

I just had to get them off his property before closing tonight
So I took the trailer to work

He used a tow truck to put the barrel on the trailer , I was afraid I had to manhandle them on :drinks:

Got home and used the front end loader to get the barrels off

Looked inside the first barrel , then just dumped them over so I could get a good look :(
:groner:Barrel 1 and 4 , all apear to be Zink WW [smilie=b:
Barrel 2 looks to have 30 - 40 % lead WW
Barrel 3 looks to be 10 - 20 % lead WW

I will go thru them closer , but my best guess I will net 3-400 lb of lead
But have to sort thru a mess

I will save the Zink , as I have been using it for decoy weights
Why waist lead

He did tell me to stop back Fri , He thinks there is 2 or 3 - 5 gallon buckets of used WW in the back , that I can have
I will take more beer to thank them

A shame for what might have been, but you got 27 gallons or so of WW for a case of beer. I'd call that a good day!

What does the scrap yard pay for zinc?

So do they have ZN on them??

Most do
The boxs , say something about non toxic

Kind of easy to sort some of the mess
Some of the boxs have a plastic liner , but it isn't sealed
So pull out the bag , dump the water and look at the WW
The Zink ones all are still nice and shinny and packaged slightly differently

What a mess

What does the scrap yard pay for zinc?

A good question
When I have the mess sorted , I will ask

But I have a market for decoy weights

Have to see how much the scrap price , verse what it cost me to make anchors and what I can get out of them

OH BTW some of the Zink WW boxs , say made in China
First they run the price of lead , Al , Steel and cu up
Then they sell the US these junk WW

Sounds like you have a good plan. Decoy weights and anchors are a good use for the Zinc. :drinks:

As for metal pricing the last time I checked Zinc was 1.68 or so a pound. Not sure what the scrap man would give ya.

Wasn't there someone on here a while back looking for zinc to make cannon balls?

I think it was the state of Vermont this year outlawed the use of lead for fishing sinkers. Maybe you could sell your zinkers to someone there that makes their own fishing stuff. Maybe advertise the zink on some internet fishing site ....

you might put a posting on N-SSA board. (North-South Skirmish Assoc.) Lot of cannon shooters there. www.n-ssa.org

I quoted a local vendor some prices on 8 , 12 and 16 oz decoy weights
I have provided him with several other larger weights over the years also
He may need 5 and 10 lb weights

I make pretty good $$ off selling him sinkers and decoy weights :drinks:

The Double D is first in line if he isn't interested

Saltwater boats use zinc anodes to reduce electrolytic corrosion of metal parts in contact with saltwater. Friends have scrounged zink from boat salvage places to trade in on new CW cannonballs in the past. BvT
