Trying to design a heavyweight mold for my bisley blackhawk. I'm thinking 280 gr. How do the heavier boolits work with the blackhawks twist rate. Hints or tips on a design?

The 410 diameter boolit composed of WW or higher density has tremendous throughput (penetration). So, no need for a heavier boolit than a 240 grain design. As the diameter goes up, more length is required for the same penetration at the same velocity as is for the 410 prototype. 4227 was the powder of choice in my days shooting the Rugers and Smiths. Both have sufficient twists for 250-260 grainers in "shootable" winds at 150 yard range targets. ... felix

I have used 300 and 320gn boolits designed for the 405 Win.

i have an SSK mold that will run 280-290 gr depends on what alloy I put in it -- in a DWA, S&W and a 6.5 Bhawk shot fine-- I now shoot 255 as my heavy if i wanted something heavier it might be in the 270-280 range- truncated cone- .30-32 meplat crimp to nose would be around .400-.420 and maybe gc'd depends- any way my 255 LWNGC went through a european boar from the back ribs and out the front of the chest- as well as side to side and out he weighed 278#-- a 210 cast hp will shoot end to end of a whitetail even with the expansion-- but they are fun to shoot so do what you like:) btw I agree with Felix
