I'm looking for a Keith style 310 grain bullet. I've been told that the NEI has a mold that is very close to the Keith. And this mold will produce bullets that are accurate for long range. I've looked over the NEI website and the best I can tell is that the #320 might be the mold I am looking for.

Does anyone here have experience with this mold? Is it what I am looking for?

Thanks

Spades:

Compare NEI #320 with Ballisti-Cast #938.

The Ballisti Cast 938 is what we call an offender bullet, since it will not shoot on the planet at long range. The NEI 320 will if they still make it. I had heard they changed it to a gas check design and so ruined it for a real sixgunner. My 45/310 was made by Tom Ballard a long time ago and it will shoot, just call John Linebaugh and ask him how it shot in a machine rest at one thousand yards.

I have some commercial plain-based Keith 310's that I purchased some time ago from Dry Creek. I don't currently have a use for them. I'd be happy to send you some if that would help.

I am pretty sure they are from the NEI #320 mold, but you'd have to check with LAH to be sure. They are lubed and sized (.453).

NEI will make a slightly lighter version of any of thier gc designs. They simply hold the cherry back far enough so as not to cut the check shank. They will also shorten any design by any number of drive bands you ask for. I have three different length/weights of the same boolit design from them cut with the same cherry, one a gc and two pb.

I just recieved an email from Patty Melander(Walts daughter) at NEI and she says there has been no change in the 320 mold. It is the best 45 Colt bullet for strong sixguns ever made.

Lucky Joe: My local dealer called today and he got in two Bisleys at a price of $529 each. I had him put both of them back for me.

Frank: You talked me into it (at least that is what I'll tell the wife!) Looks like I'll soon own an NEI #320.

Thanks for all of the replies

KTW that bullet is the offender bullet from Ballisti Cast. It won't work way out there. IMHO it's to heavy in the rear. It does work great to a 100 though and is a fine killer.

If I were buying new and extended ranges were wanted I would go with NEI. I have Jim Taylor's old 45 mould and it's a great, if not one of the best, heavy 45 bullets. It's number 454-350 but is close to the 451-320.

I have an old NEI mold that is labeled 454 350 and 454 325. Ross Seyfried gave it John Linebaugh and it is the bullets he(Ross) used in Africa. The 350 is what I patterned my 360 grain Keith after and it shoots well even to a thousand yards, not as good as my 310 though.
The 325 is very different from what NEI pictures now and shoots very well. I think I should make this one available, although it only 25 grains heavier than my 310. Cast weight from my alloy is 335. It seems to be very accurate in one test I did at 370 yards. I cannot understand why you would change something that is shooting very well to something that is an offender unless you are not a shooter and have no idea what works and what doesn't. I have a very hard time with Ballisti Cast, no one there shoots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they prattle on about the 110 mold being a real Keith design. BS, it wont stay on a Wyoming mountain past two hundred yards.
Why has Lyman, Nei, Ballisi Cast changed designs ????????????????????????????

Frank, not to hijack this thread, but what would be your recomendation for a long range .357 bullet. I was planning on buying the Lyman 358429.

Thanks,

Craig

And they prattle on about the 110 mold being a real Keith design.

This was left over from Dennis Edwards when he owned Ballisti Cast and Peter hasn't changed it. I also wonder if H&G was saying the same before Dennis got the stuff? We have a H&G expert here so maybe he'll fill us in.

The 358429 is a good long range and even a good short range bullet. It will do all you can get out of a 357, Iv'e shot them at 1400 fps in a Blackhawk with excellent accuracy. The 200 grain Keith from Ballisti Cast is another good one. It will fill the cylinder of a Blackhawk completly but shoots very well long or short.
Somebody changed designs at all these mold making companies, RCBS told me when they changed Elmer Keiths 45 mold even he called and wondered why. I asked the same question, and got no answer. Have any of these "designers" ever shot something other than a bench rested rifle? To Ballisti Cast credit, their molds are very good and cast great bullets. How many times has lyman changed the 454424? It went from a good bullet to a horrible excuse that won't even shoot at 25 yards.

The NEI #320 is an excellent bullet. My mould drops bullets that weigh about 325 grains when cast with WW alloy. They are very accurate and hit like a sledgehammer!
