Found very nice looking 24/47.Nicer than I'd expect wood.Someone must've worked on it...the whole bolt group is blued and crown looks blued also. The one thing really bothers me is the buttstock is short, like it was made for a kid.Is this the way most 24/47's are ?

All the 24/47's I've seen have a normal length stock. Maybe a ROTC or military acadamy type rifle?

I have two of the 24/47's that are almost new from the rebuild of 1947. The crown on mine are bright and the bolts are bright also., not bued. I have looked over quite a few 24/47's in gun shops, on the internet and the one I have seen have the normal length stock used on all the 98's and bolts were bright--not blued. I believe what you have is one that maybe someone did a little work on for a son or daughter and maybe traded/upgraded for them later. just a guess, you understand. james

It's quite a nice shooter EXCEPT it has a .327" groove and a .329" throat :groner: The only boolit I use for it is the Lee C329 - 210 - R intended for the M95 Steyr straight pulls. It shoots those just fine. Never have tried a jacketed slug, but who cares about those :-)

Thanks for the input.Pretty much what I'd figured.Whoever did the work, did a nice job and I'm sure someone will find a place for a pretty milsurp that fits short arms.

Buckshot, one of the two 24/47's that I have has a unique stock on it. It is Elm wood like most of the 24/47's I have seen, but, it has tigertail figure from the buttplate all the way to the bayonet band. And I mean pronounce tigertail figure most of the way, it only lightens up past the front sling band. I wish I could do pictures (I am computer challenged) as I would like to share some with the group on here. The other 24/47 is mostly straight grained with very tight grain. Elm wood as I have been lead to understand by woodworkers, is very durable and lasting wood. james
