Lyman 1200 turbo

Just bought the Lyman 1200 turbo and started pushing some brass through it using Lyman toughnut media. Not happy with the results. Picture shows original cases (top) best and worst sample, then after 2 hours (best and worst) and finally after 8 hours (best, average and worst)

Do I néed to add some kind of liquid cleaner to the media? Pre-clean with something else? Ignore it and move on?

Once you go SSM you'll never go back. I set myself up for less than $100. Only limit is I cant do many at a time 400 .45acp or so.

SSM ok in the Lyman vibrator? Doesn't it need water with it?

I don't think you can put SSM in the Lyman. I set up with dual drum rock tumblers.

I have the twin turbo and the instructions do mention wet tumbling in the small bowl, though they don't go much beyond that. It is basically the 600 size bowl with a snap on lid. I don't see it being capable of doing a lot of brass in a batch, couple handfuls, maybe 50 45 acp. I will try it some day as I have a 5lb box of SS media here, somewhere.

I would clean them with citric acid. Then tumble. Ck this out.

Hmmmm. I'm sure everyone else has better advice than me. I just use a cheap bag of ground walnut shells from the pet store and every so often I add a splash of Formula 2000 car polish to it, and maybe a splash of odorless mineral spirits when I feel like it. I leave it running overnight and have never had any come our with stains like that.

Oh that's no int a Lyman tho, i just have a cheap Harbor Freight vibratory tumbler.

I'v used that an old method to improve the cleaning is to put 2 Tablespoons of Mineral Spirits in the media let run with no cases for 3 Mins. then tumble or vibrate as usual.
