I am thinking of re-barreling my rolling block it is one of the Norway ones that someone has drilled and tapped for a peep and also a tang so it has no collector value. I shoot 45/70 in it but it bulges the case a little, I want to keep it Black Powder and was thinking of a 40 cal or 30\40 Krag, do not need anything big as I have a Shiloh Sharps in 45/70 in a Creedmore so I have the big bore covered. Remember I will keep ina BP cartridge as I d not think I want to chance a smokeless on a action built in 1883.

40-50 Sharps Straight

You can use Krag Brass to form it.I almost had one but a fellow beat me to it!

There's always 40-65 or 38-55! My 40-65 is my old stand-by.

Those Norwegian Model 1867 Rollers are in the same caliber as the Swede Rollers (Norway's Army kept the same rifle caliber as Sweden at that time). So you have a 12.7x44R - no wonder you have bulged cases when you shoot .45-70 in a .50 caliber rifle. Proper cases are available from Bertram ($$$), and Buffalo Arms makes them out of .348 Win cases. My Swede will chamber cut down .50 Alaskan cases (last forever in BP), but not all of these Rollers will chamber them.

If you just want to re-barrel, that's fine. But if you are doing so because you are having problems with the ammo in that rifle, it would be far, far cheaper to use the right cartridge.

40-65 would keep you from having to locate a new extractor.
