Anyone have any experience with Mec Gar magazines? I need to order some new ones and found some for a fair price.

Yeah. Save your money and buy a Original Factory Colt one instead. I've tried a couple of different after-market 1911 9mm magazines and while there may be one that fits, feeds, ejects, and works the slide stop, I haven't found it yet.

Mec Gar makes GREAT magazines, in my experience! Mec Gar made the ones which came with my brand-new Sig. And they makes the factory mags you buy from the Sig factory. I also use them in my CZ 45. Their quality control is outstanding, in my experience.

I am using metalform mags in my 9mm 1911 without problems. The ones I have are the plane Jane blues with the flat metal follower. The follower has a ramp at the end to keep the round from nosing down. I tried using the plastic follower 38 super mags for 9mm, but didn't have any luck. I believe I read somewhere that metalform manufactures the factory colt magazines.

MecGar makes OEM magazines for several different manufacturers. All the magazines I've gotten from MecGar have worked flawlessly. I've got them for Witnesses, Springfields, S&W's, 1911's and one Sig. None of them have ever failed to work for me.

Hope this helps.

No experience with that particular mag, but MecGar is a top quality maker, very many
OEMs source their mags from MecGar.

I use Metalforms in my 9mm STI Spartan, they work great.

Metalform makes a lot of the OEM magazines for Colt. They are top of the line and usually less expensive than others. I have them in .45 ACP and .38 Super for the 1011. I have no experience with Mec Gar.
Springfield Armory has a twist on 9mm Magazines that no one else has. Due to the shorter length of the 9mm cartridge they put a spacer in the rear of their 9mm Magazines.

I don't own a 9mm 1911 (seems a travesty somehow. . . . ;-) ) but I think the Colt 9mm mags have a spacer behind the cartridges, too.

From what I've read, Mec Gar is the standard by which others are compared for the FN HiPower.

Mec Gar makes OEM mags for CZ. Between Mec Gar, Check Mate, and magpull mags I've personally had zero problems as far as aftermarket is concerned. There have been a few instances that only OEM has done well for me: glock, magnum reasearch (desert eagle), ruger (22s), high standard (22s). I'm sure there's others that I have no experience with.

My Dan Wesson PM-9 came with Checkmate mags. While I have heard of some folks having problems with them, mine have been flawless. Just my experience. enjoy Mike
