I got this 4cav mould (150 gr, SWC, plain base, wide lube groove) from this site a while back. It casts fine bullets, and I expected to to find a lot of load data for it in my books, not least my Lyman books. Well, neither the old or new Lyman book list any .38 loads for it, just .357 loads. So I ask: Was this designed only for .357? I intend to load .38s with it, over 5.9 gr AA #5. Thanks for any input.

Go to handloads.com and look under 150 38 SWC. They say that exact bullet with 5.4 grains of Unique is perfect. I used to shoot it with 5.5 grains of unique and it was a warm load but not abusive. I was shooting it out of a model 28 4 inch. Be careful no matter what firearm you try. If it's a blackhawk, no sweat, a Smith is OK, if a lesser quality then work up to what ever you are going to shoot. Enjoy, Rod

I have shot thousands of those over 5 grains of Unique. I have also shot the 5.5 gr loads, but work up to those. It rotates out with the 358429 as my numero uno boolit.

Yes, GREAT bullet
No gas check and will go as high at 1000fps in STRONG 38 special

I just used the Lyman load data for the 158 grain round nose. Worked fine.
