when i cast for my 45-70 in my lee pot that holds 10 lbs i cast half a stick of 50 50 silver solder to just under 10 lbs of pure lead i was told this mix would be around 30 to1 the bullets are quite soft but are .460 and .461 and my gun is .450 bore and .458 in the grooves i get no leading at 1600 fps in my 32 inch barrel i use rooster red BP lube mixed with lanolin 9parts roster red 1 part lanolin, with that lead mix even my lee 5003r semi spitzer is a good hunting bullet.

I don't think you are using silver solder. Is that just what ya'll call it down there?
50% silver alloy costs $60.00 per imperial ounce here. A 400g boolit would cost $4.75 each.

Bernie's got it, silver solder will not melt in your pot.
