Here are some pics of boolits I am currently shooting in my Martini rifle -- currently low velocity "pop gun" loads that hit pretty hard out on the 200 yard gongs.

In the pic left to right:
Lee 459-500-3R with bands reamed out to 0.470" (Thanks Don.)
RCBS 465-480-FN
Mountain Molds 468-520-RF Custom mold
Cast Performance 475-410-WFNGC

Lee, RCBS, and Mountain Molds Custom -- Air cooled WW, LBT soft blue lube, Trail Boss powder loads, no filler, 930 FPS. Sized/lubed in 0.470" size lube die.
Cast Performance -- Trail boss, no filler, 950 FPS.

The 1st 3 designs are deadly on the 200 yard gong. All hit hard -- and the aiming is easy.

That last WFN -- Not so good. At 950 FPS, they keyhole so bad that at 200 yards, 1/2 of them hit within a 50-ft circle of the target. The rest land somewhere out yonder between 200 and 400 yards. You can see them shank and hook off hither and yon. Same rifle shoots my 525g custom Mountain Mold "Lead Cylinder" with a stubby 1/2 caliber long tangential ogive 70% Meplat bullet straight and true at 300 yards -- started even at 900 FPS no problems.

Any ideas on helping out this WFN boolit -- as I bought about 100 of them before my molds showed up..... and they are pretty much useless as-is. The martini rifle runs about 22" twist -- so they should have stabilized just fine.... especially when a boolit 1/2" longer stabilizes fine. Maybe try out a stiffer load, more velocity? Hollow point it?

Why would it shoot so bad when my straight 525g MM boolit shoots so well.

Thanks

John

Lee 458-405F paper patched with 20lb bond. Loaded over 38.0gr IMR3031 + Dacron. Velocity about 1250 fps in my MkIV. Nice accurate load.
