decapping pin small or large?

Broke a RCBS decapping pin. Is it considered a small or large pin? It measures
.071 diameter. I purchased some small pins off ebay and they measure only .060 diameter.

It's been a while, but I think I recall the RCBS pins are a proprietary size. You can probably tighten the collet enough to hold a piece of .063" music wire, which you can get at a hobby shop -- enough to make dozens of decapping pins, and much sturdier than the originals, for two or three collars. Don't try to cut it with wire cutters (the wire will notch your cutters); use a Dremel with a cutoff wheel.

Contact RCBS, and they will send you a five-pack of the correct size pins, all at no cost to you.

I found out after purchasing and receiving the small decapping pins that I needed the .070 diameter large pins instead of the .060 small pins. Looking at my dies my 380,9mm,and 40cal, and use the large .070 pin. Oh well now I have both sizes. My old 45acp dies use the small pin.

I guess if your a manufacturer and need to sell more product the only solution is to make dies some of which use the small pin and others the large pin. Yhis will make sure that you purchase a quantity of both sizes.

I contacted RCBS just for grins and asked them what size pins I needed and they replied the small .060 pins. You have got to love customer service at some of these places.

I doubt that they will send out any free pins when there is money to be made selling them.

I keep large and small pins for my RCBS dies . Now I noticed a set of my newer dies the pin has a head on it.

I now have a selection of large and small pins. So far I don't own dies with the heads on the pins.

Our local Wal-Mart had the large and small pins in stock. But of course not the one with the head. Dropped the die and bent the pin is how I found out about the head. :?

The headed pins won't pull out of the decapping stem if you stick one in the flash hole.

I guess I'd replace a .071 pin with a .070 pin. What was the question? [smilie=w:
