Yesterday the wife broke her hand/wrist while fighting with our big lug of a dog. She went to the ER at our small hospital and had it x-rayed. It was too swollen to get good pics, so they put her in a soft brace and sent her home, with the instructions to see a hand specialist ASAP. She is miserable and the soonest I could get her in to any kind of Dr was tomorrow morning.

Thank God for Obama Care. This will only cost us about twice as much as it would have a year ago...:veryconfu

Best wishes,

Joe

Oh, that's bad luck Joe. On the up side that 'big lug' will be there as a comfort through the recovery. Dogs know when you need a cuddle.

Sometimes it sure is hard to understand the ways the Man in the sky chooses to bless our families. Only later do we see. I pray she heals well and suffers little, and the added stress brings you all closer together. But then, that is my prayer for all of us,,,,,,

I am sorry for the unfortunate incident and hope she get betters soon.

Please understand I do bones for a living. When someone is referred to me and has been told there is too much swelling to tell if there is a break- well- I have to explain to them that is a bunch of hogwash since swelling has zero, nothing, nada to do with an x-ray's ability to show a fracture. A lot has to do with x-ray technique and, mostly, the person looking at the x-ray. To put in laymen's terms- the guy didn't know what to look for. If the x-rays were inadequate then he should have gotten more. In the scenario you describe of your wife, I would treat it as broken until proven otherwise.

Keep us abreast of the results!

Beau is that like the Pt telling the medic "it's real hard for any one to start an IV on me, I have been told I have rolling veins?"

Joe sorry to hear about the injury, prayers pffered.

Ha ha ha! Rolling veins is a misnomer for "I can't get it". Trust me.... there are ways.... Many are not exactly textbook....but it can be done....

Thank you for the prayers and well wishes. At least she got out and was able to deer hunt last weekend a bit, and got a nice young doe, so her deer season wasn't a total bust. She is just mad because it really puts a damper on all that she has planned in the next few weeks.

Best wishes,

Joe

What's the story with the dog Joe? :hijack:
Is it time to re-evaluate the dog's position within the realm of the homestead?
Years ago, I learned that dogs tend to add stress and cost money. Don't get me wrong, as I loved my dogs, but when the situation called for it, I manned up and downsized.

A friend broke her arm(wrist) last week and they didn't even put it in a soft cast, just a wrap bandage. Depends on whether it is a stress crack or fracture. Hope yours and she get well soon.

Be sure and go see a specialist. My boy broke his pinky 3 or 4 years ago and the difference between the ER treatment and the specialist was night and day. Had we not gone to the specialist, his use of his pinky would have been severely compromised.

Not nearly on the same level as a hand or wrist, and I was very thankful for the skills of the doctor.

The Dr Visit yesterday with more xrays didn't show anymore than the ones from the hospital but the swelling was also worse. She is scheduled for an MRI this coming week. The Dr thinks there are some broken bones in the hand and wrist because after 36+ hours on anti inflammatory meds the swelling should have gone down had it been just a bruise. They put her in a special cast to hold it absolutely still over the weekend and next week when she gets the MRI. Thank you all again for the prayers and thoughts. I am a firm believer that it works.

Best wishes,

Joe
