I have procured my first batch of 99.7% lead (50 lbs), and I need a scale to weigh out my metals for alloying.

Would someone recommend me a good one that's not too expensive?

Welcome to the board!

There are plenty of cheap digital postal scales available on eBay in the 25+ pound range. Low ball a bunch of them until one comes home.

I've had one of those postal scales that has something like 33 lb capacity. It does either lbs & oz or kilograms and converts between the two. It's probably five years old and starting to flake out at times but it was only something like $16. I use the Kg side of it for measuring alloy ingredients, lots easier to figure percentages with metric weights.

Doh! So simple... I would have never thought of it.

Digital fishing scale. Just put stuff in a bag and hang it. Goes to ~ 60#. Works for fish too.

I use the harbor freight postal scale. It works great for me.

I just use an old spring type kitchen scale with a 25 lb. capacity. I make a lot of 30/1. Targets don't seem to know the difference if I'm over or under a 1/4 lb.
