If having a custom .41 cal mould cut, what would be the advantages/dis-advantages to eithr the thin ( lyman ) or thick gas check shank. Personaly I would think that the thick would be a "better" gas seal. I put this to those who have / used both and are in the know.

The Gator 410P1 can be advantageous because it uses the same shank diameter as Hornady.

As long as the check is the same diameter as the boolit.
It must also stay on the boolit.

Having dealt with .41 gas checks in several configutations over the years, I'd get a PB mould cut and have Pat Marlin make a .41PB gas check maker to fit the base diameter. I've had really good luck with his PB GC makers in both .30 and .35./beagle

The question being, What "works better" as a gas seal! The thin are realy thin and I haven't seen the thick but there must have been some thought to two different thicknesses.

You better round up the gas checks first. No more 41 gas checks from Lyman or Hornady. Hornady does sell a .416 GC which fits a slightly different size base. I think Gator can make original size checks or the 416 checks.

I have a .41PB checkmaker. The big advantage is, I can use a PB mold for PB boolits or put a check on if I choose. For most 41 Mag pistol shooting a gas check isn't needed, But What I wanted was to put a check on a softer alloy hollow point boolit and drive it faster then would be prudent without a check. During application, I've had great luck with the popcan metal checks clinging to these boolits. I used a Lyman 450 to size, lube, and apply the checks...just as easy as size and lube without appling a check. I haven't got to shoot any yet.
