I had an issue with my 586 smith, the fireing pin bush was worn out and caused the gun to lock up,$8 later a new bush was fitted and finally today it was range day.I didn't know what to load so 5grn of TB under a 158grn RN was picked and off I went.I'm not a pistol shooter by any means but I had no issue hitting ducks at 100mtrs on the sillywet range, the 50mtr ones were easy, the 100's were 80% hits and the 200m rams had hits all 'round 'em aiming at the top of the berm. The only issue I see is ammo supply,I now know why progressive presses are popular,it's a great feeling when you have a good day at the range and a good way to end a busy week,Oh and it's summertime now, living in the outback desert region of Australia means shooting in 40+ Celcius degree heat, mirage like you've never seen. I've put up 357 cases with Lyman #358429 and 5.0 grains of Trail Boss also. It is a very pleasant and accurate load in my 686 x 4".

Never tried the trailboss in the 357. This sounds like an interesting concept. Thanks.

In straight-wall revolver cases, it seems to load grain-for-grain (NOT bulk-for-bulk) with Alliant Red Dot in terms of net ballistic yield across the chronograph. Its pressures I don't know about, but extraction is unimpaired and just like conventional mid-range loadings of shotgun powders. TB is very "fluffy", and takes up a lot more space than does Red Dot or its Alliant shotshell cousins at a given weight. It apparently does NOT take kindly to compression, but has done well for me at 85%-100% loading density in 38 Special, 357 Magnum, 41 Magnum, 44 Magnum (rifle and revolver), and 45 Colt so far. Dunno if it's any better than the shotshell powders in these applications, but it is certainly no worse.

I like the fact you can't double charge,it's a very safe powder. Pat
