Just found these videos about a source of lead. I didn't know this. Didn't know if you guys knew about this so thought I would share.

Here is a follow up video from the same guy about this lead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReEYMr5CI9w&feature=endscreen&NR=1

Now you have a reason to visit the dentist that is more pleasurable.:)

Dental x-ray lead. There have been threads on this stuff, some practices treat it as "medical waste" and won't sell it (instead, they pay to have it hauled away and "cleaned up"). It's effectively pure lead, but with dental x-rays going digital, it's going the way of lead wheel weights and real linotype.

The dental X-rays I tested came in at 8.5 BHN. Harder than I expected. I melted half a five gallon bucket of them and got 8 pounds. Definitely the fluffier lead I've dealt with.

As Lizard says, BHN and castability definitely indicate this not pure lead. It has some tin in it. Seems to me someone had some tested and it was around 2%, but I could be wrong.

I got a black garbage bag full from my brother in law a couple years back. It is indeed "fluffy". Lots of foil needed to make a few ingots.

My dentist has gone all electronic!

Mine too but I managed to get 20 pounds of the stuff last check up. I didn't know it had much tin in it, but I sure didn't seem real soft either. Might have to use it up on hollow points. ;-)

My dentist has gone all electronic!

Mine too, but when I asked what he did w/ all the old foils, he came up w/ 30#+ he was glad to get rid of. Never hurts to ask. He had been stroing it on a shelf in his office for the last 8yrs or so!
