Hey all you fellow can cutters, I came upon a great way to cut the tops and bottoms off cans !

Got a Dremel? Got one of those fiber cut-off wheels ? Have at it ! WATCH YUR FINGERS !!! (don't ask why I stress this - lol)

Zing into the can all the way to the mandril, run it all the way around with the mandril touching, slick as a whistle.

Once I got the feel I, could top and bottom a can in less than 5 sec !!

You mean pop cans? I just use scissors.
You mean steel cans? I just use a hand held crank type opener and cut the side instead of the top.

Hi Bullshop, GREAT to have you back !!

Yep, alum pop / beer cans.I have used scissors, utility knife, etc.

Dremel is just much faster for me - literally less than 5 sec top and bottom

Just tried this. Sure makes a neater cut than scissors and quicker. Thanks

Well a cherry bomb will open them quicker than that if you cut the fuse short enough.
Hard to find pieces bigger than confeti though.
How about fill them with water and center them with a bullet doing about 4000 fps. That opens them quick too.
But if your doing it to use the can material for gas checks or something like that I guess your way is best.
Thanks for the welcome back.

'Euan' put me onto a good idea. Cut the top and bottom out with scissors, flatten the can and cut into strips on a paper cutter across the width of the can. You end up with two layers of material connected at the ends. Great for 2 ply checking.

Well, for mini checks for that 0.000000017 caliber needle gun I want to build, I was thinking of hitting the unopened pop can with a 22-250.
Yea, gotta pick up the pieces with micro tweezers !
hmmmmm, wonder if Pat can make a checkmaker that small ?

Ross, I thought with all the coil you have bought that you would have stopped all the can cutting , you just can't help yourself can you? Have you still got ten digits on your hands? Lol

Hi Ian,

Lovin that coil !!!

Yea, gotta experiment !! All that free aluminum !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yup, all 10 fingers, slight nick on my thumb from the Dremel on about the third can - got a little full of myself !!
