After two batches, my Marlin 1894 CB is showing a strong preference for the Lee C452-300 RF bulletl. I am casting them out of straight wheel weights (~320gr as cast) and pushing them 2400. 15 gr gets me just under 1100 fps and 16 gr gets me around 1150 fps.

I'm running low on wheel weights but have a fair amount of "pure" lead (from roof flashings) that I would like to alloy. Being a casting rookie I'm seeking the guidence of the great minds (enablers?) that seem to hang out here. How should I alloy it and would that alloy work if I want to push it faster?

Many thanks in advance. :drinks:

I use an alloy of 50/50 wheelweights and pure lead.
I've pushed this alloy and the boolit you're talking about to 1550 fps from my win 94 trapper.
18.5 grains of 2400 will get you to around 1500fps without unsafe pressures.

I'd save the pure lead as it's scarce and expensive around my parts.....

I'd just get out and scrounge some more wheel weights. I've got a years supply and it will soon be time to get out and make another round of all my tire shops.......

I use a little, but not much pure lead in the front-loaders, so pure lead is as much a "find" as lino-type....

I went 25yrs of casting before running accross 200+lbs of linotype. Can't even bring myself to melt any of it, but I'm gettin old.......... and now don't really need to blast with a .357mag any more.

No! it ain't available !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will eventually shoot it up !!!!!

Who knows when I'll decide I just HAVE to find out if my .300RUM will shoot a cast 175gr FNGC well with some type of Surplus powder ?!!!!!!!!!!!

My .45lc' like my .452-300. Mine casts to 315gr with w/w and Hornady GasCheck. It is exceptionally accurate from my Ruger RedHawk and Win mod94 "Legacy 24"bbl". I run it a bit hotter though......
About 1,175fps from the Revolver, and 1,600fps from the Rifle.

Can you actually call this a .45 Colt ?????????
The brass is either MagTech or Star-line.
