I picked this sporting rifle up at an arms fair at Bisley in the UK.The bore is a bit rough but plenty of strong rifling left.
Just interested if any of you guys have loaded this cartridge.
Cartridges of the world show 290 grain Lyman 403173 behind IMR 4198 (rare in the UK!) I would probably try AA5744 as it works well in my Vettereli and 45/70.
Military load is 80 gr fg behind PP 337 grain lead bullity thing.
Have slugged the bore and got 0.406. Cases are available in the UK.
I picked up a set of Lee carbide 41 mag dies for 10 GBP which I think will suffice for neck sizing. I use the Lee universal flaring and decapping dies alot already for "funny" calibers.
I am now on the lookout for a mould which will cast a 300 grainer at around 0.410 with a view to sizing to 0.408. If you have one I am interested:-D
I know this cartridge wasnt very popular in the US but there may be European reloaders lurking here somewhere!
Cheers for now,
Tony
