I just ordered a Mossberg ATR Super Bantam (http://www.mossberg.com/product/rifles-bolt-action-centerfire-atr-bantam-super-bantam-short-action/27240)in .308 Winchester. Short, light weight (like me!):bigsmyl2: and easy to handle. I expect to take possession early next week.

I'd like to thank Txbirdman for buying my 1903 Remington and making this possible. Richard, I hope you like your Remington as much as I'm sure I'm gonna like my new .308.

Like ol' Troy would say, "Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!":Fire:[smilie=w::happy dance::guntootsmiley:

Excited? Who, me? What gave ya' that goofy idea?[smilie=1:

SUUUHWEEEET! Love that adjustable stock Jim, it's the biggest reason I love my AR's --- because they fit my short arms!

Someday I'm going to die, and my wife will die, and someone is going to get a bunch of guns. The person who gets them will be excited right up until they throw it up and then they're going to think;

"What the hell kind of midget used to own these guns?"

LOL

I'll be looking for the review with pictures. Looks like a very handy rifle, and I have become very fond of the 308 Winchester lately.

Nah, she'll get her time behind it. I'm gonna load some stuff just for her. I even got .45-70 RB loads I made for her so she can shoot my Gibbs. We have a great time shootin' together!

I'll bet Janet wont let you shoot that one off the front porch! :)

Jim

Yeah, that might not be spectator friendly. Of the four dogs we have, Dolly and Jones are scared to death of gunfire. If I lit off a .308 right outside the front door, my dog food bill would be reduced by 50%.

I was going to point that out too Jeff. But thought that I'd save my "brownie" points for later.

I got a bigger lie than THAT to tell 'er. I'm gonna tell Janet I won a popularity contest on the forum and this was the grand prize!

She'll never believe it, Jim. On the other hand, if you tell her your picture of her shooting off the front porch (or the one of her holding a sleeping Daisy) won a photo contest, that might fly.

Note: curmudgeons rarely win popularity contests.:kidding:

The rifle came in and I picked it up this afternoon. It's sittin' in the lead sled on my bench waiting to be prepped and scoped.

Gotta save up some dimes and nickles. Right now, all I got is a Tasco 3X9X40. Hey, ya' work with whatcha' got, right?

Ya' know, I just had a thought, but it didn't hurt too bad, though. I have a Lee 312-100-2R mold. I bethca' I could work up a real light load with that over a few grains of Bullseye or Unique or somethin' like that. I betcha' I'd be the first guy in the whole country to go 'coon huntin' with a .308 Winchester!

I can just see it now:

"You 'coon huntin' with a .308?!!"
"Big 'coons."

Jim I've got a couple of .308 Lyman molds I don't use much, one is the 173 grain flat point bullet that I use for 30-30 and one is the pointy 180 grain 311332 mold I've been thinking of selling but probably won't.

If you'd like to try some of these shoot me a PM and let me know if you want them bare, sized, lubed, whatever and I'll get you some...

Tell her it was the darnest thing. The UPS truck skidded out front of the house and that rifle package fell out!

I have to tell y'all, I really do enjoy all this foolishness. It makes my day go by.

Truthfully, Janet knew what I was gonna do from day one. What REALLY makes me a happy little boy is that she's hoping I can work up a light load for it so SHE can shoot it, too!

It is a wealthy man who's wife wants to shoot with him and is happy with him when he gets a new gun.

I got out to the 'coon club yesterday and got the ATR on paper at a hundred. Now the load development starts.

I have several bullets and boolits to work with and a few powders. This oughta' keep me busy awhile.
