What would you expect from a 7.5 inch super blackhawk with a lee 310 grain boolit and 10 grains of Blue Dot? I also have Unique available, no idea how much to use. I'm looking for 1000-1050 fps with that boolit

I'm currently starting to work with 310 grain boolits in my .44 Magnums. From what I've read, the slower powders should work better with these heavy for diameter boolits. So far, I've only tried Alliant 2400, in the 17 - 18.5 grain range. Velocity in my 7.5" SBH is in the mid to high 1050 - 1090s. But I've run into two problems - leading and bullets partially pulling forward under recoil. I just got a larger sizing die to achieve better fit of boolit to cylinder throat, and am working on solving the boolit creep issue. I'll stay tuned to see if anyone has suggestions for you that I can try too. -Ed

I could load 13 grains AA#7

I use a 310gr LFN cast boolit in my 5.5" RedHawk with 19gr of AA #9. This gives a tad over 1300fps.

I used the same load in a Super BlackHawk 7.5" but do not recall the velocity.

One thing to be aware of with the heavy boolit at higher velocity is the possibly of damage to the base pit (pin on which the cylindar turns) and the spring loaded cross pin which retains it.

Shouldn't have that problem with the velocities your talking about.

I have never had problems with boolit slipage during firing as spoken of above. Just has never been an issue for me.

Wish we were close, we'd throw some over the chronograph for you.
