In my experience with what I use is the, Lee E8 for pistol, RCBS 87580 for standard rifle, Redding 69200 for magnum rifle. Never have broke a pin in either of them and they all work fine. For the money for pistol and standard rifle the Lee E8 will do just fine.

So would the RCBS work for Pistol and Rifle.

What caliber or calibers are you decapping? For example, a .308 sizing die will decap .40 s&w...just a thought. There are certainly other combinations that do double duty. For me, the Lee universal decapper does the trick in my loadmaster station 1, but i used a .308 full length sizing die there until i got the lee in the mail.

Sorry, just saw your post on calibers. You might be able to use the 8x57 on the .45 acp, 30-06 on the .357.....worth a shot

God Bless!

RCBS was my choice, due solely to their customer service. Sooner or later, a decapping pin is going to break, and it's nice to know that RCBS will send a package of 5 free replacements..

I use the Lee--never had any problems whatsoever with it or any other Lee die.

I have the Lee decapping die and replaced the decapping pin once since late 80s. Ironically, it was decapping 45-70 brass at the range. I don't remember how many crimped primers it actually pierced through. Tough die. Called Lee and got another decapping rod for 3 or 4 bucks plus shipping. I have CH4D for stuff the Lee doesn't do.

Take care

Lee. I don't know why you would pay more for another brand. I'm assuming the bad reviews are from the pin breaking. This is almost always operator error. The pin should slide up and you have to exert excessive pressure to break it. Trust me. I had a berdan primer slip through and I knew well in advance I was using to much pressure. But I kept pushing and the pin broke. I also had the collet that holds the pin, to tight so it didn't slide up. A call to Lee and they sent a new pin even after telling them it's my fault.

Normally I think of Lee products as an intermediate step prior to the recycle bin, but this die is well made and keeps on working. Get the lee.

Get whatever one is cheap. I bought an RCBS locally.

Think about this, all it does is push out a spent primer. How much can go wrong?

I have used the Lee for years, one of the +'s is it works on nearly everything. Can't remember the divide on RCBS, but they have two decappers.

The Lee decapper has worked fine for me for the last 6 years when I purchased it new. If a Berdan case does slip through, and it does sometimes, the pin will not break if you use prudent force and stop when you encounter impossible resistence. I will echo what others have said about the great customer service of RCBS! They are tops in my book and I often will spend a little more just to buy their stuff because they stand behind it.

Got the Lee today, Works perferct.
Tried it for .45acp, 8X57, .38 and .223

Reason I got the Lee over the RCBS was I would have to buy two RCBS dies to cover all the calibers I do, this one Lee does all my calibers.
Another reason is side by side the Lee looked made better and I love RCBS products.

My RCBS die will decap all calibers, not sure what you mean when you say you would need two of them.

RCBS makes two decapping dies;
PN# 87580 DECAP DIE .22-.25 CAL This die will decap most calibers, and is the one I use to decap .22 to .45 caliber.
PN# 87585 DECAP DIE .27-.45 CAL According to RCBS, this die is designed for crimped military primers .27 caliber and larger.

I found a good used Lyman universal decap here for sale a couple years back. I am a RCBS only guy when it comes to dies, but this Lyman does the job!.

Look or ask around for a lonely large rifle die no one is using. As long as it clears your cases you want to decap, it would work too.

Used the RCBS version. Broke all my extra pins. When I popped up to our local Cabela's I noticed a LEE version for 10 bucks (at the time). I bought a bag of RCBS pins, and the LEE die. I've used that die for years now and haven't broken a single pin. The only time I've seen the pin break is people that overtightened the pin so it couldn't slide out.

Even then LEE replaced it for free.

Why buy anything else?

I own the RCBS but have had a lot of trouble with it but it is probably operator error. When I break pins, I bend them over and have a lot of trouble getting them out. Both times I believe it was off center flash holes in Fiocchi and PMC .45 ACP brass.

I bought a Lyman as midway was out of the lee at the time, broke the pin and had problems getting a new one. Called Lyman and had issues with them. Bought the Lee and some extra decapping pins. Lyman eventually sent me a new pin, which has also since broke. The lee just slides up out of the way if you have an issue.

Made mine of an old Herters 30-06 primer pocket swaging die.

I use the Lee in my 650 in the first hole, the Dillon trimmer in the #4 hole. Throw slightly lubed 223 into the case feeder and size, decap, and trim as fast as I pull the handle. I then tumble to get the lube off and deburr the brass. Works for me! Rod

I use a Lee universal decapping die and out of 374 .30-06 I finall broke the pin. It seems that about 4 were berdan primed and the danged thing broke without it sliding up. Guess the factory had it too danged tight. Sent for a new decapping pin for $7.12 including shipping from the Lee dealer on-line. Haven't received it yet. I think that's a little too high a price for a decapping pin. For 4 $$ more I could have gotten a whole new die.

Danged cheap-O Lee dies. If and when I purchase another it will be a Lyman or an RCBS. BC

Lee, enough said.
Really all it does is decap and for the price you can't go wrong with it. I even like the way it slips up when a problem occurs without breaking.
