Hello all, New guy here. I have a question about lubing molds Can I lube a mold with alox that you use to lube boolits with? or is there something better that I might have on hand. Parafin wax, Kroil???. I have been handloading for 40+ years using stroe bought boolits but just started casting my own. I have lyman (steel) molds and lee molds. Thanks.

I use bullplate to lube the pins and sprue plate. Some guys use synthetic 2 cycle engine oil.

I have had very good luck on both Lyman and Lee molds with synthetic 2-stroke oil, use the instructions for lubing a mold with bullplate (I think it's a sticky) and hopefully it will work as well for you as it has for me.

Thanks guys, I have the two cycle oil. I'll use that until I get some bullplate.

I used a toothpick with 50/50 beeswax bullet lube for 50 years.
Then I discovered bullplate.
It was like trading in a covered wagon for a Rolls Royce.
Get you some Bullplate. It is cheap, one bottle is a lifetime supply. I use about half a drop per mold about every second time I cast with it.

You ought to get some Bullplate. The 2 stroke oil will be fine until the good stuff arrives. I got two bottles 3 years ago, and they're still about full. The real danger is in spilling the stuff. Get a little bottle with a needle spout and you'll never run out. enjoy Mike

Stihl's fully synthetic 2 stroke oil has been working well for me. I keep a couple of q-tips dipped in it at my casting bench. I have to reapply it after after 40-50 casts or so. Put it under the sprue plate, handle hinge, top of mold and mold pins. Just be careful to not get it into the cavities!
