I have one of the early big timber hartford 50-90ss guns with the wayy slow twist,
like 1 in 38",and of course when you use the Greenhill formula you will see you cannot properly stabilize a High coefficient spitzer boolit in it.
Those are like 6-700 grain slugs,and need a 1-24" .
300-450 grainers stabilize with it ,this I know, recoil is already boomin`.

but has any here tried those big mammas in the slow twist??

Go over to shilohrifle.com/forums and do a few searches.

Bobw shot an older 50/140 at the QUIGLEY SHOOT in Forsyth, Montana the last two years--with paper patch bullets to boot! I was using a 2005 issue 50/90, but mine has the faster twist. 600+ grain boolets can be a little more fun than you want if your gun is a lighter weight (mine is 14 pounds+ with a 34 inch heavy barrel. I love the BIG GIRL!)

There seems to be a growing interest in 50s and paper patch.
