Found this at the scrap yard today. I think it's a telephone cable splice. Probably full of wire?

Looks like a splice. The lead in my experience is usually dead soft. Good score.

Yep, looks like a splice. I never did copper splicing, only fiber optic. But I have seen a few of those around. Looks like theres probably a 50 pair cable in it.

I did underground copper splices back in the late 70s. They were enclosed in a black plastic case filled with water resistant "whale snot" compound then.

The guys in the line gang dropped hundreds of those in our back yard back in the 60's. Still have about 400 pounds left in the basement...
