Lessee, if I'm seeing things proper, that's a model 10 4" heavy-barrel, with Pachmayr presentation grips on a square butt frame.

The little sweetheart looks like it's in great condition; had it long?

eta: are those the Speer swaged SWC-HP's? What's your load for them?

Model 10-8, my stepfather's revolver that I bought for him 15 years ago. Shoots like a house afire... When my mother passed on three months ago, my mostly blind stepfather, 87 year old veteran of WWII European theatre, gave it back to me. The holster looked a lot worse when I gave it to him as a cheap rig to keep it in. Cleaned up awfully nice, didn't it? MetalGlo works on brass snaps, too!
Those are Winchester factory 158gr +P rounds, have to carry factory ammo in this county. I got a 3 inch group with these, standing, two hand hold, 25 yards, double action. Albeit the group was three inches right of POA...that's MY fault, not the revolver!
This is what I hope to produce 158gr SWC, and eventually, my own 158gr SWCHP, when I get good enough to cast HP.

Well, Speer offers a SWC-HP that's not too expensive, and has worked well for me over a +P loading of Unique. I believe that Zero bullet company also offers a SWC-HP swaged bullet, as well.

Gorgeous gun, great leather, great loads! Sweet!

Blessings on your stepfather; there may never be another generation like them, the 'Greatest Generation'!

I just traded for a new in box (all paperwork and tools also) 15-3 4". Blue. I had done some work on a model 66 and endd up with the 15-3 as I liked it much better. I traded a stevens model 200 270 that was won as a door prize at a banquet plus a few hours of work. I think I did pretty well and like mentioned above these guns shoot well.

Last night I lubed/sized some RCBS 150 SWC and will load in the next few days. Like you, I am anxious to get it to the range with some home cast.

If ever there was a caliber and platform designed around the cast boolit, the 38 Special and the D/A revolver would be IT. The Winchester factory 158 SWC-HP is a fine load for the caliber, indeed. Both your Model 10-8 and Manley's Model 15 are excellent 38 Special revolvers. My current 38 Special is a Colt OMT x 6".

I wonder just how many #358477's I've run through my 38 Specials over the years. Thousands and thousands. A few years ago, I went to the #358429--it does fine work also. My mold is one of the lighter versions, casting a 163 grain boolit with a relatively short base band.

Al,

I agree with you on a perfect match of handgun and cartridge, thus the reason I opted for the model 15 with 4 inch barrel instead of the 66-2 w/6 inch. Your 358429 drops close to what the 2 cav and 4 cav that I have weigh. I have had this old RCBS 150 SWCfor a long time and cast soem just to say that I have actually cast and shot some of them. The 358429 has served me well, have shot far too many out of a charter undercover and several 3 screw and new model rugers. I have been waiting for the right smith for along time and I think the the one I traded for is a keeper.

Considering the numbers made of the Models 14 and 15 S&W, you sure don't see them come up for sale all that often. I'm pretty much filled up in terms of things I want to buy, but a M-14 x 6" or M-15 x 4" could always find room.

I have a 10-7, unfortunately languishing in the shop...soon to be rescued!
Great shooter, needs a new hammer, though.

Bull--

Lemme check with SWMBO before having you drag those along. Given all the nonsense I've put up with on this whole move/re-location thing, I feel entitled to a trinket for my boundless energy and patient acceptance of terms and outcomes not to my liking. Then again she may come along to NCBS and buy one herself. I'm clueless currently.

Those Smiths are sure nice and you are rightfully proud. I just this past weekend picked up a LNIB, complete with manual and warranty card 4 5/8" Ruger Old Model Blackhawk in 45LC with 45ACP cylinder that has never been fired. The 45LC cylinder has a very light, almost non existant ring, but that is the only mark on it.

Ya just gotta love those old handguns.

9.3x62Al:  "entitled to a trinket for my boundless energy and patient acceptance".. ..for just a few $ more, the lady can assuage that feeling with a nice 6" 32/20 Official Police, and keep one of the 15's for herself !! or vice versa, whatever works for you two.. I'm easy ! onceabull
