Ive been searching around and can only find a limited amount of data for .40 s&w.

But i have to admit, im being rather picky. lol

Im trying to find some data with only win 231 powder for the following bullits

180 gr hornady swc

180 gr fmj (actually tmj) RN

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FYI, i have already thought of changing to alliant powder because of the lack of data out there.

If Winchester doesn't have data for that combination I would question it's use.

I have had my best luck with WST but unfortunately my reloading data is 1800 miles away. I have also shot some with HS-6.

But my bullets aren't hollow points.... does t matter that much?

Winchester lists 231 and 180 with 5.0 gr being about max.. I used this load for years with 180 gr Bear creek Moly coated bullets.. Back down 10%, check for pressure, and then work up if neccesary..

I use 3.8 of Solo 1000 for a 185 gr Cast RN which gets me about 750-775 fps, friends of mine use 4.7 of Solo 1000 for major power factor (about 925-950 fps). I load mine long, he loads his at SAAMI max OAL 1.135".

If you load to max OAL for the cartridge, HP, FMJ, SWC, etc tends not to matter as much.. usually the HP bullets at the same weight are longer overall than more solid (ie non HP) bullets.. which take less internal case capacity..

If you want data for 40 S&W, the Brian Enos Forum has a boatload of information.. for all kinds of bullet and gun combinations... since it is a very popular competition round..
