Here's my custom build MN 91/30. I'm calling it Tsar Romanoff's Legacy (TRL)
Parts list:
1943 Ishevsk Receiver, Bolt and Magazine lightly polished and bead blasted then dura-coated
Czech UK-59 MG barrel turned down bead blasted and duracoated
Harrel's Muzzle Brake installed and duracoated
Bolt turned down by Max Shepard
Rock Solid Scope mount
Barksa 6-24 x44mm Tactical scope
Richard's Micro Laminated Birch Silhouette Tactical Stock with decelerator pad
Champion 6-9 inch Bipod

Will be adding a Timney trigger group and bedding the action
I also changed out the scope rings to a Low HD set for a very nice cheek weld and sighting in.

I believe the king would be pleased with your efforts and promote you to chief designer or something equally grand . It does shoot better now right ??

I'm olibgated to say: OMG! What you did....!!!

Anyway.. shooting report!!!

I'm a bit upset I didn't snag one of those barrels when they were available. I like the stock and your coloring choice.

I will be sure to keep my Mosin in the safe while I have this thread up. I can't bear to look at both of them at the same time.

Thanks for the feedback guys!
I chose the Royal Camo coloring for the stock.

The gun I used was my ugliest MN 91/30. The bolt and floorplate and butt plate were all restamps so they weren't original to the gun.
The trigger pull was and still is terrible- probably in the mid to high teens.
The bore was still fairly decent with rounded lands.

I've done some shooting trying to sight in at 100yds. Needed some loc-tite which I didn't have for the scope and mount and definitely a better trigger before we will know what we have.
I have also found the Wolf Gold 180 gn BT-SP will out shoot the milsurp ammo any day of the week so I will need to make up a batch of of my own high grade ammo before we know what this gun can do.

Honestly, I'm hoping for a 1000 yd gun when I am done.

ST,
In the words of the All American Hero Forrest Gump, "beauty is as beauty does..." (or was it his mother?)

Anyways, here's a pic of my B'day Mosin PU Sniper...sighted in at 200yds.http://castboolits.gunloads.com/imagehosting/thum_17237508e931a2069e.jpg (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=7211)http://castboolits.gunloads.com/imagehosting/thum_17237508e932709483.jpg (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=7212)

When glass bedding the replacement stock I found there are 2 places you need to do. The first, of course is at the front recoil lug. The second is at the rear tang of the action and make a ground out spot to take the recoil, otherwise you stand a chance of splitting the stock with recoil shock.Robert

HardCast,
In terms of recoil, this gun doesn't have much. Maybe half of what you'd get from a stock 91/30. The barrel already free floats.

I bought a pair of 1/2 inch bedding pillars with new screws (from Rock Solid Industries) and need to take a little more woood out of the action area to accomodate the new trigger and bedding pillars and also the interupter spring needs more room. Presently, I can only load one round at a time.
