I was curious as to what board members thought the fair market value is presently for a used Marlin 336CS,.35 Rem., 20" Micro-groove Barrel in excellent shape.. The metal is 90-95%, wood is 90%. It has one visible scratch-gouge about the size of a dime on the forearm. The rifle has the cross-bolt safety. Also it has the famous see-thru mounts with a Tasco 3-9x40 scope. The scope is functional but has a lot of scratches where it has been mounted
One followed me home. The price was 300 plus tax. I just ordered reloading dies.

300 sounds like a very good price. I would not be surprise to see a marlin as you describe sell for $400 may be even $450 or more. Guns like this should bring top dollar this time of year. Deer Season and all.

I have a Marlin 30AW in mint, unfired condition with a no-name 3-9 scope. I'm thinking that
$375 would be a good selling price. Any opinions on whether that is low or high? No
box or papers but not a scratch on it anywhere or a rub.

If it is pre 2009, you did well...

I saw one in Georgia about a month ago go for $150!

Our local credit union has a member bulletin where people can buy and sell stuff like a classified. It comes out every two weeks on Thursday morning.

I put it on my calendar to check at 7:15AM. I saw the add and told my friend who was looking for one. Too late, one of the local heavy weights already called and bought it at probably 6:00AM or so in the morning.

Turns out the owner bought it originally for $150 when it was new and just wanted to "get his money out of it".

I should add that I see one available for today for $375. I have seen people ask almost $600 for them to, but that was with dies and brass. I think $300 is a very good price for the rifle you describe.

Greetings
Bought an average 30A (85%) with shootable bore (but not perfect) for $165. Going to get bored and rifled into another caliber.41 . Mike in ILL

I'd say 300 is a good price also. Seems like the past couple years, the asking price for used guns in my area has steadily gone up. Now its common to see asking prices in the local classifieds to be equal or even more than the price of the gun new. Armslist is bad for this also. You did alright.

Around here, an average condition 336 with uncheckered walnut and pistol grip cap is $300.00. Oddly, you seldom see any of the Glenfields or other value edition 336's for sale. Contrary to what you might think the crossbolt safety guns command higher prices. Last month I traded for a 336 Texan in good condition with some honest hunting wear, the shop was only asking $285.00 for it.
