I have a 1918 colt 1911 I am thinking about selling.
The "United States Property : has been scrubbed off of theleft side of the frame.
Other than that it is as issued.
Was part of a will and left to me.
I do not shoot 45 and am thinking about selling.
Pictures to follow.
Please let me know a legitimate price to ask, in other words no low balls please.

From the pictures the gun looks correct for the vintage. The pistol appears( again from the pictures as I see them) to be around 60-70% per NRA guidelines. You did not mention the shape of the bore. If that is O.k. I would guess money would change hands at around 850 to 1,000.00. If United States Property had not been removed then you may get more. The asking price for these pistols is all over the market. There may be asking prices as high as $2000.00 for a pistol like yours but I just don't see them moving at those prices.

wv109323,
Do you think asking $900 here on the forum plus shipping would be too much to ask?
Took it to the local gyp joint today and was given an estimate of $300 and he was frothing at the mouth to buy it at that price so I ran not walked to the nearest exit.
That is why I was asking for a good evaluation of it.
Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

Even scrubbed , I would say it is worth more than that for an original 1911 made in 1918.
It would be listed at 1500 minimum at any gunshow up here.

Jeeez........and I just GAVE my 1911 to my son. Yes, it was a 1918 Colt product too and NOT scrubbed. Well, I guess he can never accuse me of not loving him..........:groner:

Thanks, but I don't have the cash to back up my wish list. It is a beutiful specimen and I would be proud to own it.
