Will a standard 158g SWC mold work instead of the TL mold with a 45-45-10 alox lube? Or do I need to buy a TL mold?

The normal lube groove design will work with the 45-45-10 lube. I'm not a big fan of the TL process because of the nature of it nor do I think that it's an ideal lube but it does work and I used it for quite a while for 45 auto boolits, both the TL design as well as the traditional lube groove designed boolits. Boolit fit is very important as it is with any cast boolit but I found it more so when using TL; not as much wiggle room.

It will work just fine, and probably is a better choice in the long run. If at some point you decide to buy a lube sizer you will be set.

If "TL" means tumble lube, that's all I've ever used for both rifle and pistol loads.

I once bought some red colored lube back when I thought I needed it for shooting
rifle loads to about 2000 FPS. It's still sitting on the shelf in my storage room.

Of course if "TL" means something else, please disregard everything I've just stated.

I'm sorry. Yes, it does mean "tumble lube".

I've used 45-45-10 on regular lube groove bullets. I personally don't like the "look" of tumble lubed bullets, splotchy tan stuff on the nose, so I dip lube mine (both alox and 45-45-10), ala Ranch Dog. BTW, it isn't necessary to fill the lube groove with tumble lube on regular bullets, just a regular light coat...

My experience indicates that, for 38's, TL works fine, no matter whether used on a a TL design or a conventional design. Haven't tried any in Magnums yet...

The Lee Liquid Alox is all I ever use and it works just fine on conventional designs as well as Tumble Lube designs. I don't care for the 45-45-10 but instead use 50-50 Alox/JPW. I find that once JPW is melted and mixed with the Alox it stays in a liquid state and thins the Alox.

+1 on the 50/50 LLA/JPW. Gotta love the stuff. 10mm, 45acp, 7.5X55, 45/70 and 308 Win all work well with no leading and good accuracy. I don't thin with mineral spirits but pre-heat in a microwave before squirting onto the boolits.

Huh. I didn't know you could melt it in the microwave. Been running the bottle under hot water.

+1 I do that every day too.

You get much better coverage if it is warm ( but not hot ).
