Hello all,

Had an interesting observation the other day - a 454 Casull round will fully chamber in my S&W 25-5 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was fooling around making 45 shotshells, figured I could use 454 case if I made a slight "neck" in it ( this works great in a 38/357 using 357 maximum cases).

Stuck a 454 case in to figure out how much "neck" was needed, and woah!, slid right in.

Got out a loaded round - slid right in, double woah !!!

Won't work on Blackhawk, Anachonda, or Win 94. Just the Smith.

Guess I better put the Smith away before getting out the 454 ammo !!

ya you have to watch things like that i was shooting my Contender in 44 mag
and my Encore in 454 and gabbed a 44 round and put it in my 454 and shot it
at first i thought there was no powder in the case there was just a pop like just
a primer so i looked down the barrel to see if the boolit was stuck in the barrel
no boolit and there was like zero recoil then i looked at the case that i was still
holding oh **** it was a 44mag case from now on only one caliber on the bench
at a time

I also had 44mags & 454 casulls on the bench guns & ammo i put 5 rounds of 44 mag in my Casull noise level was normal but accuracy went south , i wondered what happened when i ejected the emptys shells i found out what the problem was, luckely it was a load @ around 1,000 fps

I've thought about that before, but I wonder what the benefit is compared to using cci shot caps. Just so you dont have to buy the shot caps? Maybe a slight advantage to shot capacity?

am I right, the only reason is you don't what to buy the shotcaps? if so, more power to ya.

may as well use some 460 cases. Then you can keep using your large primers, too!

That is not right, I'd talk to S&W about that, is your chamber bored straight through or is there some throat in the cylinder?

Whiterabbit - yep, Just don't want to pay for the shot caps! ...and something to tinker with !

Moonie - Yes, I need to take a good look down the cylinder.

The 44 in 454 chamber would be wierd, but doubt much if any damage. 454 in thin walled Smith cylinder ??? Essentually double the chamber pressure ...... Bulge? Dis-assemble ?
