Well Gang I was Pleasantly surprised by the Performance of the Ranch Dog 350 Gr in my Marlin 1895GS in 45-70 and even the others at Hunting Camp were Amazed lol.

I have used this same BOOLIT on Full Sized Hogs say 200 LBS up to 350 LBS without a Problem and a few Deer as well and has done well. And I tried to impress on the others how little blood shot meat there is when using cast and they really did not take notice.

But this past weekend I even amazed myself on how well the Cast Boolit works. We were down there not to hunt but for me to Plow a few 1 Acre lots to plant. But thought what the heck I would go out before day break to see what I could see. And they said get a little pig for lunch and laughed because they are darn hard to hit as they move around ALLOT lol. And I kinda take pride on shot placement.

Well Guess what just as I was walking up to the blind and there was a group of Hogs and 6 Piglets at about 130 yards. So I popped one that was only oh 12 pounds lol. Here is the GOOD Part the bullet just went through both front shoulders and only ruined the part the Boolit went through. :bigsmyl2:

I brought it back and there Jaws dropped at the shot lol. But I had a chance to show them how little Damage there was with a Cast Boolit even one as large as the 45-70 where as there 7 MM Mags would have probably blown the little thing all to pieces.

So I Worked Too Darn Hard but I got to Shoot a Little Pig for Lunch and brag a bit and put another Dent in the wood of the Marlin 1895 GS 45-70 from having to use a tree as a steady to make the shot. But as I have told others every scratch and dent has a Story and it was well deserved lol.

Sorry for the Long Rant and Praise of the Cast Boolit :bigsmyl2:

We forgive you. I have a hard time hitting those little suckers also. I prefer a shotgun with heavy #4 shot for the little runners. We trapped a bunch of sows a couple years back that had a lot of piglets small enough to go right through the 6x6 panels we used to build it. I think it took us about 15 minutes to slowly get them all.
Great shooting! I miss my old 45-70 marlin.

That's right, the younger the better for eating. I wont shoot a young, immature deer, but I splatter the heck out of a young porker for the pit.

Pop momma, and clean up the lil' ones when they come back.
Momma goes to the coyotes, lil's go on the smoker.
For me, deer are simply harvested, and not much challenge unless you're a trophy hunter...but pigs are downright fun!!!

Jester, I'm curious what alloy or BHN you're casting for this. Just picked up this same mold for my 45-70 and would like to hear what works for you.

I have no idea lol. I use 2 LBS of Lino to 3 LBS of Pure and then water dropped. And sized to .460.

My load is not a top end load but it will rattle your brains at the bench with a Guide Gun lol. I use Remington Brass with 52.O Gr of H-322 with a Fed LRP I think it is the 210.

One day I will get a little porker and I will deep fry the whole thing.

Just imagine bacon, pork chops, Boston butts, ribs, loins, and pork rinds all on one plate.

MMMMMMMMMMMM GOOD.

I must go get a sandwich.
